When citing laws and regulations, make sure that you always use the primary source. The official and authentic version of acts, ordinances and government agency regulations are published in the Swedish Code of Statutes (Svensk författningssamling SFS). Other documents related to Swedish legislation that may be of interest are legislative proposals, the Swedish Government Official Reports series (Statens Offentliga Utredningar, SOU), Departementsserien (Ds), committee reports and legislative bills.
Sweden is also effected by EU law. Some of the EU legislations apply directly, while others must be implemented in existing Swedish legislation before taking effect. The basis for EU legislation are the EU treaties, out of which EU regulations, directives and decisions are derived.
