Constructing a reference list

Constructing a reference list

The general rule for how to construct a reference list according to APA (7th edition) is that the references should be arranged in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author. If the same author is represented with more than one publication, arrange them in chronological order. One-author entries should precede multiple-author entries beginning with the same first author regardless of the publication date. If two entries with multiple authors have the same first author, the entries are ordered based on the second author and so on. Multiple-author entries in which all authors appear in the same order should be arranged by the year of publication.
